I’ve always worried about my weight, always. I remember the moment as a preteen I stepped on the scale and it said 100. I cried. Thinking back I probably shouldn’t have been worrying about my weight so young. The worry has always stuck with me and the next weight I remember that really hit me was 135 probably around age 14. Um what? It’s crazy to me thinking I was upset at that weight when I would kill for it now. Anyway as I grew older my weight went up and up and up. At the end of my senior year I was really stressing and really eating everything. My entire life was changing. My weight topped out at over 200 pounds, I honestly can’t remember the exact number.
What finally made me lose weight was realizing that I could. My boyfriend said he needed a “break” and I stopped eating basically. I was just so consumed with school and upset that I didn’t think to eat; it wasn’t a conscious decision. The break only lasted a week or two, but i lost over ten pounds in that time. It amazed me that I could do this and it made me even more determined to.
Funny side note. I didn’t have my own scale at the time in my dorm, but my roommate did. We never talked to each other so I had to sneak use her scale.
I started tracking what I eat and decided that carbs were my problem, which they are. I love bread and pasta and rice and basically every carb out there. I realized my diet consisted mostly of carbs and fat and little protein. So I made it a point to eat protein. I steadily lost weight over the second semester of my freshmen year and into the summer. I tracked my intake with tracker.dailyburn.com . I totally recommend it. I lost about 25 pounds in four months. I was ecstatic to say the least.
The summer of 2011, I spent six weeks with my boyfriend at the time, now fiance, who lives in England. So I took a hiatus from watching everything I ate. I drank and ate pretty much what I wanted to, but tried to squeeze in veggies whenever I could. My goal for those six weeks was not to gain weight, and I didn’t. We walked so much it doesn’t surprise me.
Over my sophomore year I struggled to lose weight while working out a lot. My body composition changed while the weight barely did. I lost 15 or so pounds, but I’d say my body fat was really reduced.
I have an on and off relationship with running and I’m attempting to get into lifting. My best friend got me into swimming and I enjoy that about once or twice a week. I’m always looking for things to stay active.
